Marco zeb Piazza

I was born in Como, in the Northern part of Italy.  In 1993 I moved to the USA to pursue a higher education.  After I graduated from Northern Arizona University -NAU- in 1996 with a BS in Forestry, I was able to get my boots dirty working  in a timber survey crew in the Deschutes National Forest in Oregon.  After a few months back home I enrolled at the University of Wisconsin - Madison -UW- where, in 1999,  I obtained a MS in Forest Management.  During my graduate studies I worked with Dr. Joseph Buongiorno in the Forest Economics and Management Lab.  My research thesis was titled "Diversity -Productivity relations in Northern hardwoods of Wisconsin and Michigan". See the abstract here.  Later I lived for a year in San Francisco where I worked as Data Analyst for Genesys, a telecommunication company.  Back in Italy I worked as an independent forester for two years and later i was in London for one year working with Dr. Richard Murphy at the Imperial College of London. For the next two years I was part of the European Office of INBAR working for one year at FAO in Rome, where I currently live.

My interest for bamboo sprouted during graduate school while following courses on Agroforestry and Indigenous Knowledge.  Ever since, my interest grew and I was able to learn much about bamboo from reading literature and communicating with experts in the "bamboo world".   Since 2001 I am part of the Italian Bamboo Association with the role of coordination and web management.
